Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle form of osteopathic treatment which encourages the release of stresses and strains within the body using soft manipulative pressure. It is a very effective treatment approach and can be used to treat a wide range of conditions in all ages, from newborns to the elderly.

Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel a subtle, rhythmical shape change present in all body tissues called Involuntary Motion. It was first described by Dr William Sutherland in the early 1900s and was later confirmed in a series of laboratory tests in the 60s and 70s.

Due to the gentleness of cranial osteopathy, it is particularly safe in the treatment of babies and children. It can also be useful for patients who are cautious about the idea of stronger treatments.

At present we do not have any cranial specialist osteopaths working in the practice, but are happy to recommend someone local who might be able to help. Just email and we will be happy to put you in touch.

However, if you are just looking for a gentler treatment, all of our osteopaths are happy to adapt the type of techniques they use to suit what is appropriate for you. You can book a standard osteopathy appointment below.
